Our Events

This tournament is planned to give an exciting start to the debating season for teams from across China and Southeast Asia. This tournament will take place across 3 days, beginning with a free training session from the AGD’s experienced coaches, then on to a weekend of intense and challenging competition with Open and Novice Public Forum Debate, and Duo Interpretation speech. In order to give students the best quality of training and feedback, the organization and judging team will include breaking speakers and judges from the World, European and Asian Universities Debating Championships; former US High School champions; with combined decades of  experience of coaching debate on every continent.

Tournament Details

  • Tournament Dates: September 24-25, 2016
  • Language of All Events: English
  • Topic for All Debates: " Urbanization in China has done more good than harm."
  • Events Offered: Public Forum Debate (Open); Public Forum Debate (Novice); Duo Interpretation
  • Estimated Tournament Size: 225 students
  • Debate Rounds Planned: 4 preliminary rounds, then elimination rounds beginning with Octofinals in Open, and beginning with Quarterfinals in Novice.
  • Speech Rounds Planned: 3 preliminary rounds, then elimination rounds beginning with Semifinals.
  • Awards: All elimination round participants and the top speaker will receive a trophy. All participants will receive a participation certificate.
  • Meals Included: Lunch on Saturday for all Contestants (Sunday lunch will be an extra 25RMB)

Registration Fees:

  • Debate (Open and Novice): 400 RMB per student (two students per team)
  • Speech (Duo Interpretation): 160 RMB per student (two students per team) 
  • Priority Entry Deadline: Wednesday, September 7th, 2016
